Yuri Briar. 20 years old.

He lost his parents at an early age and was raised by his older sister, his only immediate relative.

“Oh, I’m sorry. This room kinda smells a bit, isn’t it?”

Wanting to make his beloved sister’s life as easy and happy as possible, he studied hard from an early age, and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by skipping grades, and is now traveling around the world as a young elite diplomat…but it is just his title on the surface.

Currently, Yuri Briar works for the National State Security Service, also known as (SSS). Ranking as the second lieutenant.

“Even if I ventilate the room, the smell of a filthy traitorous bastard keeps coming back. I wonder where the hell is the smell coming from? Right? Mr. Bellman?”

The man is a secret police officer.

Hi!

It’s a very interesting question.

To answer, we need to look at the present to guess what could happen in the future.

Right now, I see Yuri as a kid who is trying to be a ‘the man of the house’. That may be also the reason why he’s so upset about his mom sister marrying Loid Forger. You see, Dr. Forger is an adult man with his life figured it out, capable of protecting and providing for Yor. Which is exactly the role Yuri wanted to fulfill.

What Yuri doesn’t know is that Loid Forger doesn’t really exist and Twilight is man who doesn’t have his life figured out at all.

Yuri is one of the most interesting characters to me because he’s in the verge of adulthood. And I think at some point in the story he is going to become an adult and face several truths, the two most important ones: that SSS is doing the wrong thing and Loid Forger is Twilight.

When this happens, he’ll have to choose between his family and his duty and there is NO WAY he’ll choose duty over Yor.

So, to be honest, I’m worried about Yuri’s future and wellbeing. I doubt this is the last time we’ll see him in danger. But the good news is that Yuri is TOUGH! This is going to be very helpful when things turn ugly for disobeying the SSS and this chapter gave me hope that he’ll survive until the end.

Now, regarding his relationship with his brother in law…

Twilight basically has to prove to Yuri that he truly loves and deserves Yor. THIS is what Yuri has wanted from their first meeting, by the way. And I believe Twilight will do that.

Somehow, I think they will face each other again. Next time it happens, it will be after Yuri learns his real identity and something tells me this time Yuri could win (or at least do a better job fighting). After this first confrontation, you bet our dear Yuri is going to train harder to defeat his enemy and by the time they face each other again, he’ll also be mad as hell at Twilight for lying to his sister, so he may kick Twilight’s butt.

Something that I would like to see is for Yuri to NEVER kill anyone. Why? Because that’s the kind of life Yor wanted for him and I think it would be poetic if Yor really got her wish (bought with her sacrifice).

At the end of the story, I see Yuri quitting the SSS and maybe actually working in foreign affairs as a true diplomat for peace between both countries.

And regarding his relationship with Twilight…

Well, I hope there’s at least a lot of respect between them. If things turn out the way I imagine, my guess is that Twilight may owe Yuri a debt of gratitude and that’s going to help their relationship.

And Yuri towards Loid…I would think after all the things they went through, probably respect and maybe the beginning of a friendship with lots of pretending they don’t like each other, when they really do. I see both of them trying to get along for real because they both love Yor.

So chapter 83 of Spy x Family dropped just recently and was probably the best thing I saw all week. I was very much looking forward to this Loid vs Yuri fight and I am proud to say that it delivered.

I saw a take a while ago that Loid wouldn't be over protective of Anya when she begins to date (date Damian) and I like that headcanon pretty well

Actually there are lot of Japanese fan comic create this scenario before.

Surprisingly in their comic, they create Yuri has more better understanding towards Damian because he notices he is a good kid that will have potential to taking good care of his niece. Yuri also sees himself as Damian when he sees him try to tutor Anya as his young self to teach Yor. And Yuri decided to help Damian by giving advice how to tutor Anya effectively.

This is because both Yuri and Damian are the biggest tsundere toward Anya. And when Yuri starts to accept his niece ( as official ) he notices Damian tsundere behavior toward Anya right away because that’s how his relationship and Anya starts.

SxF spoiler chapter 83

I know Yuri lost this time to Loid but he still think this is Twilight. And Yuri has not much motivation to endure the pain because he still do it for the mission ( and he couldn’t careless what Twilight is because he only care for Yor well being in a safe country)

In bus jacking arc at least point out that he felt the pain because of lacks of motivation of protecting the bus that Anya in. And the bullet that Yuri took for the bus jacking arc he felts the pain because that is the 1st time he took it to someone ( in that case is Anya and the kids) besides Yor.

So if he has to witness Yor or Anya in danger, Yuri probably showed his “fully” strength more 🤔

Bonus Ichigo wanting to crawl in a hole:

When I read the lightnovel I start to understand Yuri characteristics better and it can show he can acts differently when he is not with Yor or Loid when babysit Anya in career center. He does care for Anya future and well-being, too.

Yuri also wants to Anya to have a affordable job because he doesn’t wants her end up poverty like him and Yor did. Yet, the lightnovel even pointed out his overprotective to Anya can come out without any warning when he sees her wants to play gun.

It can show that his character not rely on those comedy elements can show a different side of him. Personally i think he can find a understanding partner to put those overprotective idea away. ( and he can put it in someone else) Everyone deserves to be happy in this story since all of them suffered so much.

I really like the mystery female sss character design ( and her eyes look kinda a 🐱 so it’s opposite to Yuri as a 🐶). Based on her interaction with Yuri in chapter 81, she seems a little more carefree than him, which his is more serious. She seems to be a new recruit and under Yuri unit, too.

And Yuri boss now has to babysit these “kids” under the sss care now. Her dynamic with Yuri would be fun to watch because it’s could be a fun dynamic like Yuri with Anya.
